Hojicha, or roasted green tea is the most quintessential Japanese tea that defines their uniqueness. This is traditionally a farmers tea as the wealthy aristocrats of Japan would take finer tea cultivars for themselves. The farmers creativity transformed this once bitter Yabukita and began to fire roast it to dramatically change the flavor to have dark chocolate notes. The roasting process, much like with Espresso greatly reduces the caffeine level and also creates naturally Pyrazin which is good for circulation. The Japanese drink this normally at night or after a meal. This is a powered format of our loose leaf version…added applications are lattes and baked goods. It also has higher nutritional values as by consuming the powder, you and consuming the entire leaf itself.
