Especially Japanese Matcha and green teas are not fermented, so easily oxidized, that means the flavor and color goes bad easily...so the freshness is the key. Most of tea companies don't even know where their teas were coming from. As a speciality Tea Company, ARTEAO takes sourcing very seriously and origin is important. We only source from small farmers that are connected to their land and we know exactly where the product is coming from.
HISTORY OF ARTEAO
ARTEAO concept began in 2016 when Michael Howley, co-founder. His old Japanese friend owns an organic Matcha farm and introduced him the deep world of organic Matcha. Then Michael picked up a backpack and started to travel to tea regions in Japan after his 15 years living in Tokyo. He visited the major organic Japanese tea regions in Shizuoka, Aichi, Kyoto, Mie, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, and Kumamoto and build relationship with small family own farmers. They only speak Japanese so the farmers were surprised to meet an American suddenly visited and started to speak fluent Japanese, but thats the best way to built personal relationship to the farmers. In February 2019, Michael's wife Aki joined then launched ARTEAO.
CURATED PRODUCT LINE
Our frag ship products were only Organic Matcha and Organic Hojicha Powder. In 2020, ARTEAO released Organic Botanical Powders, and Organic Japanese Green Teas. Since 2021, gradually released Organic Tisanes. ARTEAO curate products, and try to be an one-stop tea suppliers for individual tea enthusiasts and specialty cafes.
To make delicious teas having rich umami with organic way is much more difficult than conventional farming. We appreciate the organic farmers effort and would like to introduce the craftman's products to the world.
